Walk To Africa 2012

Walk to Africa 2012 was a huge success with more people than ever in attendance and the most money raised to date in a single event.  Nearly 800 people gathered at the Opening Ceremonies as Patricia Heaton delivered a message about her work with LMM in Sierra Leone, having built a school in the village of Kenema as a tribute to her mother, which now educates over 200 children; Muslims and Christians alike.  Mark Steines once again was our amazing MC.  The African Pastors in attendance that day, whom you can see on stage are Edward Saffa from Sierra Leone and David Hamilton from Liberia.  We were also blessed by the attendance of Pastor Harold Warner of The Door Christian Fellowship Church in Tucson, AZ who helps to place our medical teams in Western Africa.

The youth band The3 Triplets performed at the Family Fun Zone and dozens of children participated in the Children’s 2-Mile walk and festivities that followed.  Silly Amy the clown returned to keep the kids amazed with her magic and puppet shows.

We want to thank our Title Sponsors, The Shiota Family, The McCarthy Family and California Community Foundation as well as the 75 other member sponsors who gave support through online contributions or donations of exciting product for our goody bag.  At the end of 2012, over $100,000 had been raised through the Walk To Africa event website.

We look forward to another exciting event on May 18, 2013.  We anticipate hitting our goal of 1,000 walkers as you help us continue to spread the word about the work of Lighthouse Medical Missions meeting the needs of the sick and suffering in the poorer nations of Western Africa.
